Hearts sign goalkeeper Reus as Schwolow departs

Heart of Midlothian have announced the imminent departure of Alexander Schwolow and the arrival of a replacement goalkeeper, Beau Reus. Schwolow, 34, is returning to his native Germany with Mainz on 1 August after one season at Tynecastle. Dutchman Reus, 24, has been signed as a free agent on a three-year contract, having been with Belgian side Beveren for the past four campaigns. Standing at 6ft, 6in, Reus helped Beveren win the second tier Challenger Pro League title last term. Former Freiburg and Hertha Berlin keeper Schwolow is leaving for an undisclosed fee. He made 33 appearances for the Edinburgh club, keeping 15 clean sheets as they finished runners-up in the Scottish Premiership. Hearts describe Schwolow as "much-valued member of the squad" but say they agreed to his request to move closer to home. With Craig Gordon retiring and Liam McFarlane joining Partick Thistle on loan, Ryan Fulton and Zander Clark are the other goalkeepers with first team experience available to new head coach Wouter Vrancken.
