Barcelona keeping a close eye as former player closes in on move to Spanish club
Barcelona keeping a close eye as former player closes in on move to Spanish club Although Barcelona have returned to the 1:1 rule this summer , the club are far from safe when it comes to economic limitations. As such, Barcelona need every bit of revenue they can generate. That is where the club’s age-old tradition of putting future sell-on clauses on departing youth players has come in handy. Indeed, the Catalans have generated a significant sum simply through sales of former players, thanks to their sell-on fee clauses. Barcelona monitoring Pedrola deal This summer, the club are monitoring yet another such deal in the form of Estanis Pedrola. Barcelona will want to get their hands on every revenue opportunity. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) According to Mundo Deportivo , Real Oviedo and Sampdoria are currently in negotiations over the winger’s transfer, with the two clubs discussing a fee of between €1 million and €1.5 million. That is where Barcelona’s interest lies. The Catalans retain 50% of Pedrola’s economic rights, an arrangement that runs until 2027 when his contract expires. Should the move to Oviedo be completed, Barcelona would pocket a modest but welcome share of the proceeds. Barcelona originally sold Pedrola to Sampdoria during the 2023-24 campaign for €3 million, after he had made 10 official appearances for the Italian side. The deal also included a percentage of any future sale, plus a €7 million buy-back option that has since expired in 2025. Taking the original fee into account, the operation could ultimately have earned Barcelona a minimum of €3.5 million. But for this summer in particular, the sale could generate up to €750,000. The forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Las Palmas, where he rediscovered his rhythm with four goals in 20 appearances. There had been hope he might remain in the Canary Islands, but talks with the club’s hierarchy ultimately collapsed. That form attracted attention from several Spanish sides, with Mallorca among the interested parties. Oviedo, however, have pushed hardest and appear close to sealing the deal, a development Barcelona will be watching closely.
