Real Madrid change stance on summer move for Man City superstar after World Cup excellence

Real Madrid change stance on summer move for Man City superstar after World Cup excellence Real Madrid are prepared to revive their pursuit of Rodri after Jose Mourinho identified the Manchester City midfielder as the player capable of transforming his new-look midfield, according to journalist Sergio Valentin . The Spain international has been admired at the Santiago Bernabeu for some time, but concerns over his age, injury record and the size of any potential transfer fee had previously pushed the move into the background .  That position has now reportedly changed. Valentin claims Mourinho has asked the club to sign a midfielder with a different profile to the options already in the squad, prompting Real Madrid to revisit a deal that had shown little movement until the closing stages of the World Cup. The plan, according to the report, is to explore a move once the tournament concludes. Mourinho wants an organiser in his midfield Real Madrid have changed their stance on Rodri. While players such as Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde offer energy, athleticism and defensive security, none naturally dictate the tempo of a game in the way Kroos did for almost a decade. That is where Rodri comes in. Mourinho believes the Manchester City star is the type of midfielder Real Madrid have been missing since Kroos’ departure, a player capable of controlling possession, organising attacks and giving structure to the team in difficult matches. Fortunately for Los Blancos, Rodri himself would welcome a move to the Bernabeu , although any negotiations are expected to wait until after the World Cup. (Picture credit: X/@realmadrid) Until recently, Madrid’s recruitment team had reservations about committing to such an expensive deal. Rodri’s recent injury problems, combined with the significant fee Manchester City would be expected to demand for a player approaching his thirties, raised legitimate questions about whether the transfer represented value for money. His contractual situation, however, has introduced a new dimension. With Rodri now in the final year of his Manchester City contract, Real Madrid believe the conditions for a deal could become more favourable than they appeared earlier in the summer. Even so, the transfer would almost certainly require movement in Madrid’s own squad before any formal approach could be made.
