Mauricio Pochettino to make a decision about USMNT future 'next week'
Mauricio Pochettino told a Spanish radio station that will make a decision on his future with the United States men’s national team next week. The Argentinian manager has been in discussions with U.S. Soccer about a contract extension through the 2030 World Cup. A new deal was reportedly offered to the 54-year-old Pochettino before the start of the 2026 World Cup , which saw the USMNT win its group and reach the Round of 16 before falling to Belgium . “We are evaluating it, looking at it,” Pochettino told Cadena Cope on Thursday. “They [U.S. Soccer] have made me an offer to continue, and we will see. Next week we will [make] a decision.” Pochettino, who has previously managed Southampton, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea, was hired by U.S. Soccer in Sept. 2024 to replace Gregg Berhalter. In his first international job, he has led the USMNT to a 17-12-2 record in 31 matches in charge. U.S. Soccer shelled out a record-$6 million to land Pochettino nearly two years ago. Both sides enjoyed their working relationship and have expressed an interest in working together beyond the 2026 World Cup . "It's difficult to describe or know your future," Pochettino said last month . "But when you are here, I think it's difficult now to see yourself living in another place, because for sure, we will miss it if one day we don't stay here in this country."
