Newtonmore stretch Premiership lead with win on Skye

[BBC] Newtonmore went five points clear in the Mowi Premiership following a hard-fought 2-1 victory on Skye, while chasers Kingussie were limited to a goalless draw away to Caberfeidh. Third-placed Oban Camanachd prevailed 3-1 over Col Glen and Kinlochshiel had a comfortable 4-0 home success against Lochaber. There was no change at the top of the National Division with victories for the top two - leaders Glenurquhart 8-0 over visitors Oban Celtic, while Lovat had to come back from 2-0 down against Kilmallie for a 3-2 home win. Fraser Watt scored all four for Inveraray in their draw on Bute. It took Newtonmore until the opening moments of the second half for Iain Robinson to break Skye down. Robinson followed up 10 minutes later and Jordan Murchison pulled one back for Skye. Newtonmore's five-point advantage comes alongside Kingussie's game in hand, while Skye remain bottom but also with games in hand over Kyles and Col Glen above them. Connor Howe and Calum MacMillan gave Camanachd a 2-0 lead and Andrew Tyre pulled it back to 2-1 all within three minutes early in the first half at Clachan of Glendaruel. Ross Campbell scored Oban's third just after the half hour. Kinlochshiel must have been relishing just their second game of the season on their troubled pitch and rushed to a 3-0 half-time lead with goals from Zander MacRae, Ali Nixon and Jay MacRae. David Falconer completed the scoring. Glenurquhart's Daniel MacLean grabbed a hat-trick, Alfie MacLeod scored two and Neale Reid, Charlie MacLeod and Glenn MacDonald all netting singles in one-way traffic at Drumnadrochit, where Glen manager Iain MacLeod played most of the game in goal. After nine games, Celtic still seek their first point and have a goal difference of minus 64. At Balgate, Calum MacDougall and Aiden Love had Kilmallie apparently strolling, but Graeme MacMillan soon struck back before Marc MacLachlan's equaliser early in the second half. Danny Kelly's final-minute winner kept Lovat, who have a game in hand, two points behind Glen, who now have the better goal difference. With the chasing group already seven points adrift, these two already look all but certain to return to the Premiership. Watt found the net for Inveraray in the opening minute. Josh Cowan soon equalised, but two more from Watt put the visiting side 3-1 up. Bute then went ahead in the second half with a Robert Lowrie double split by Rory MacDonald, in advance of Watt's equaliser with two minutes remaining.
