Real Madrid make history at 2026 FIFA World Cup
Real Madrid make history at 2026 FIFA World Cup The FIFA World Cup’s third-place match last night was an absolute goal-fest and probably the most exciting game of the tournament so far. France scored four times on the night and still came up short against England’s six goals in a game where Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe scored twice and Jude Bellingham once. For all practical purposes, the clash last night closed Real Madrid’s goal-scoring campaign at the ongoing FIFA World Cup. The final is indeed yet to be played, but Marc Cucurella is the only Real Madrid player in action and is not a likely candidate to find the back of the net. A historic campaign After the sensational match last night, Real Madrid took their official goals tally at the World Cup to 22 goals – a number that has never been hit by a single club’s representatives at a World Cup before. Mbappe is now favourite to win the Golden Boot. (Photo by Luke Hales/Getty Images) It is now the highest goal tally ever recorded by players of a single club at the prestigious event, and by some distance. Notably, three players primarily contributed to reaching that number. Kylian Mbappe, with ten goals, is the leading contributor and even the favourite to win the Golden Boot for a second consecutive World Cup. The next highest contributor was Jude Bellingham, who carried England through the knockout stages and ended the campaign with seven goals. Vinicius Jr.’s four goals take the team’s tally to 21 goals in the event. Arda Guler was the team’s only other goalscorer, and while Turkey did face a humiliating group stage elimination, his goal helped the team’s tally hit 22. A mission to recreate the same Vinicius Jr. scored four goals at the World Cup. The Frenchman aside, however, neither of the other two players had a good season for Real Madrid in the recently concluded campaign. Jose Mourinho will be pleased with the performances of the trip to the World Cup, but it will be his primary objective to field a system where each player thrives similarly. After all, the three players shining together will elevate Real Madrid’s attack to a whole new level, and adding Michael Olise to that attack would be the final nail in the coffin.
