Hamburg close to acquiring former Leicester striker Patson Daka (27) on a free transfer Sport Bild and the Hamburger Abendblatt report that Hamburg are close to signing former Leicester City striker Patson Daka on a free. After five years with the Foxes , the 57-times-capped Zambian international became a free agent on July 1st when his expiring contract was not renewed. Presently, the 27-year-old’s estimated market value is €3m. Leicester once paid €30m to secure his services.  Patson Daka could join Hamburg this week Ahead of their second season in the German top flight, HSV must procure some additional attacking assistance if they hope to remain in the Bundesliga. Merlin Polzin’s team scored only 40 Bundesliga goals last season. No striker in the squad netted more than five tallies over the course of the season. Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (five goals) and Robert Glatzel (three goals) have already departed the club. Though they weren’t able of producing much, loanees Philip Otele (Basel) and Damion Downs (Southampton) are back with their parent clubs.  While Hamburg do retain the proven Rayan Philippe, captain Yussuf Poulsen is currently the only other natural center forward in the HSV squad. Poulsen’s persistent injury troubles render the need to acquire another striker even more urgent.  Daka spent a combined six season playing for Austrian Red Bull System clubs RB Salzburg and FC Liefering and does speak proficient German. One thus expects – pending a passed medical – a deal like this one to be wrapped up quickly.  GGFN  |  Peter Weis
