Hull do not need glamour at left-back, they need availability, calmness and someone who understands positioning. Our View From a Hull City fan perspective, this report is intriguing because it finally sounds like a club building with some structure. Targett feels believable. He is experienced, he knows the level, and if the medical goes through then a two-year deal looks perfectly reasonable. Nobody is pretending he is the long-term answer to everything, but supporters have seen enough chaotic recruitment to appreciate a move that actually fits a need. Stroud is the other part that makes this interesting. If Hull are really pushing ahead with a £3m deal there, it suggests planning rather than panic. Two left-backs in one window would tell you Jakirovic wants proper competition and probably wants to play with more intensity down that flank. As for Bailey, that is the dreamier end of the story. Fans will naturally get excited because he is the sort of player who changes the mood instantly. He carries danger, he stretches games and he gives people a reason to get off their seats. But supporters will also know there is a gap between being “on Hull City’s list” and actually getting a deal done when clubs from Spain and Turkey are circling. Still, the overall tone here is positive. Hull seem to be targeting experience, upside and a bit of ambition. After that, it comes down to execution, which is where too many windows are won or lost.
