Elversberg set to bring ‘career underdog’ Luca Sirch (27) to the Bundesliga Sport Bild reports that Elversberg are on the verge of signing ex-Kaiserslautern centre back Luca Sirch. The 27-year-old – after being linked with a host of Bundesliga clubs – is finally poised to make the leap to the German top flight via the newly promoted outfit. Sport Bild writes that Sirch is scheduled for a Monday medical in the Saarland. Luca Sirch’s fascinating underdog story The Augsburg native never quite hacked it at the academy of his hometown club. Sirch spent years working his way up through the youth ranks of Königsbrunn and Memmingen before finally earning a trial with then fourth tier side Lokomotiv Leipzig in 2020. Four years later, Lautern picked him up on a free to work in the 2. Bundesliga. Sirch played an immensely important role in Kaiserslautern’s promotion push during the 2024/25 2. Bundesliga campaign. As a result, he was able to raise his estimated market value from €550,000 to €2.2m. Last season, Sirch featured in 33 of Lautern’s 34 2. Bundesliga fixtures. He scored one goal and contributed five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. Elversberg will pick up Sirch from their Palatinate neighbors on a free transfer due to the fact that his contract was not renewed this summer. Sirch will receive a chance to play against the hometown club, Augsburg, that rejected him twice in the forthcoming Bundesliga campaign. GGFN | Peter Weis
