Aston Villa complete second summer transfer signing

Aston Villa complete second summer transfer signing Aston Villa have announced the signing of Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year contract.  According to The Athletic , Gomes has joined Villa for a fee around £35 million following a successful medical on Friday.  Unai Emery’s side had no plans to add a central midfielder earlier this month.  But they were forced to enter the transfer market after Amadou Onana’s long-term injury and Youri Tielemans moving to Manchester United.  Morgan Rogers is also poised to join Chelsea in a stunning £117m deal .  Gomes is a highly dynamic midfielder who is known for his ball-winning ability, defensive work rate and intelligent passing.  He began his career at Brazilian club Flamengo before landing a move to Wolves in January 2023.  The 25-year-old quickly established himself as a key first-team player, amassing 130 appearances over the last three and a half years.    Gomes was a shining light in a tough 2025-26 season for Wolves which ended in relegation. He featured in 35 of their 38 Premier League games, with two goal contributions to his name.  Several top clubs were interested in the Brazilian, but he opted to join Villa to play under Emery.  Gomes is the second signing of the summer for the Lions after Johan Manzambi joined from Freiburg for a club record £52m fee.  Stats from Transfermarkt
