Bastoni targeted by Al-Hilal and former Inter coach Inzaghi
Bastoni targeted by Al-Hilal and former Inter coach Inzaghi Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has been targeted by Simone Inzaghi’s Al-Hilal, claim Sky Sport Italia, but a move remains unlikely. The summer had started with suggestions the defender was closer than ever to leaving San Siro, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea among the clubs interested in his potential signature. However, coach Cristian Chivu was adamant that Bastoni was not for sale, despite the controversy and angry reactions from fans around Italy to his behaviour in getting Juventus player Pierre Kalulu sent off with a simulation, then his red card in Italy’s World Cup play-off and police investigation. (Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images) Now Sky Sport Italia’s transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio suggests that Al-Hilal have made an approach to buy Bastoni, although there is no formal offer as of yet. A move would remain extremely unlikely because Bastoni is only 27 and does not want a switch to the Saudi Pro League at this stage of his career, even if it does mean reuniting with former Inter boss Inzaghi. Another issue is that Al-Hilal would first need to sell in order to bring in a new player from overseas. Bastoni is under contract with Inter until June 2028 and expected to negotiate an extension.
