Liverpool name 16-year-old Josh Abe in US pre-season tour squad Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has named exciting teenage winger Josh Abe in his initial 31-man squad for the USA pre-season tour . Abe, regarded as one of the most exciting young wingers in England, recently turned down several offers, including a lucrative professional contract worth up to £50,000 per week, to stay at Liverpool. The 16-year-old has now signed scholarship terms and a pre-contract agreement for a three-year professional deal to start when he turns 17 in July 2027. Liverpool have reportedly given Abe assurances of a clear pathway to the first team, tempting him to stay at the club. He is also expected to be given a first-team squad number for the 2026-27 season. According to Liverpool academy reporter Lewis Bower , Abe is already showing maturity beyond his years with his brilliant decision-making in the final third, while also contributing defensively. The England youth international is expected to feature as Liverpool face Sunderland, Wrexham and Leeds United before returning to Merseyside next month. Liverpool academy top scorer Kieran Morrison has also been included in the squad, alongside Will Wright, who joined the club’s academy last summer. However, highly-rated striker Jayden Danns missed out due to a hamstring injury.
