Liverpool sign Japanese attacking midfielder Itamura
Liverpool sign Japanese attacking midfielder Itamura Liverpool have completed the signing of Japanese attacking midfielder Mao Itamura. WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Reds this afternoon. The 19-year-old joins Liverpool from Dutch Eurojackpot Vrouwen Eredivisie club Feyenoord. Itamura started out with Japanese side JFA Academy Fukushima before joining Feyenoord in 2025. The youngster netted eight goals for The Pride of South and provided six assists, helping Feyenoord to their highest-ever league finish of third place last season. Itamura’s achievements saw her land a Player of the Year award. On the international stage, Itamura has been capped by Japan at various youth levels up to and including Under-20 level. Given the player’s achievements in 2025/2026, she seems destined to break into the senior squad very soon. After sealing her move to Liverpool, Itamura said “It’s a league and club that was one of my goals, so I’m happy to be here. “When I started playing soccer, one of my goals was to become a professional footballer. When I reached that goal, I wanted to play for my favourite team. “I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play in Liverpool, a big club.” Itamura is Liverpool’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
