According to the report, Real Madrid believe the overall cost of the operation, combined with recent performances, has made the transfer increasingly difficult to justify .  The club was already hesitant over Chelsea’s valuation before events in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final further weakened the player’s chances of completing the move. As such, reports indicate the club has now closed the door on signing Fernandez during the current transfer window. He’s very good, but he lacks composure,” Ramon Alvarez de Mon said. He also criticised the way the midfielder managed the final. “In a final with so many fouls going on, you can’t get the first yellow card for protesting and the second for going for an impossible ball. He’s shown a lack of intelligence,” he pointed out. Those observations backed Real Madrid’s belief that the transfer would not represent good value, particularly considering Chelsea’s reported asking price of around €150 million.
