Real Madrid reconsider signing Manchester City’s Rodri after FIFA World Cup victory

Real Madrid reconsider signing Manchester City’s Rodri after FIFA World Cup victory Rodri won the FIFA World Cup after captaining Spain to a 1-0 win over Argentina in New York. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner was also named FIFA World Cup Player of the Tournament. Real Madrid went quiet in pursuit of the City midfielder but are now considering signing the 30-year-old. Real Madrid are said to be internally reconsidering the signing of Manchester City star Rodri following a remarkable 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner was named FIFA World Cup Player of the Tournament after Spain were crowned champions having beaten Lionel Messi and Argentina 1-0 in the Final in New York .  Rodri edged other standout performers that starred on football’s biggest stage, such as Messi, Kylian Mbappe , and Jude Bellingham , though the award attracted doubts as to whether or not the midfielder deserved the accolade.  Nonetheless, the 30-year-old put out immense performances against the majority of the teams that Luis de la Fuente’s side faced on their way to a second FIFA World Cup title – two years after the City player led his club to their first-ever UEFA Champions League win.  Real Madrid and City in tug-of-war for World Cup winner Rodri, who admitted in March that you “cannot turn down the best clubs in the world” , has been linked with Real Madrid for some time, but despite Florentino Perez – the club’s president – rejecting the possibility of a transfer a few weeks ago, it seems as though the picture has changed.  It remains to be seen what Perez’s current stance is, but according to journalist Matteo Moretto , Los Blancos are pressing to reach an agreement with Rodri.  Manchester City are said to desperately want Rodri to remain at the Etihad Stadium until the end of his current contract at least, which runs until the end of the 2026/27 season.  The Citizens are doing their best work alongside the midfielder and his representatives to keep him at the City Football Academy, and it is understood that the club have presented a huge financial offer to renew Rodri’s contract.  Rodri is easily one of City’s greatest players of all time Back in March, there were split opinions from City fans over Rodri’s comments about Real, after he added that his Atletico Madrid days wouldn’t ever stop him from playing for their rivals Real.  City signed Rodri from Atletico in July 2019 for a then-club record fee of £62.8 million, and he quickly became one of the greatest players in the club’s history, helping the club reach unprecedented heights.  The Spain international played a part in the Treble campaign in 2023 and, despite tearing his anterior cruciate ligament at the start of the 2024/25 season, has returned to his former, Ballon d’Or-winning ways.  Last season, Rodri played a large part in City’s domestic success, including a Carabao Cup Final win over Arsenal and an FA Cup Final triumph against Chelsea .
