Hoffenheim’s Muhammed Damar headed back to the 2. Bundesliga via Wolfsburg transfer Kicker reports that Hoffenheim attacking prospect Muhammed Damar is on the verge of transferring to Wolfsburg. Several Bundesliga clubs expressed interest in the 22-year-old. The Berlin-native evidently wishes to return to the 2. Bundesliga; the tier in which he once excelled during loan stints with Hannover 96 and Elversberg.  Kicker reports that Wolfsburg will pay €7m to acquire Damar on a permanent basis. Amid struggles to break into the TSG squad last season, Damar saw his estimated market value decline from €7m to €5m. Damar will sign a five-year contract with Germany’s green company team.  Why didn’t Muhammed Damar hack in the Bundesliga? It mostly came down to a matter of competition. A strong training camp left many convinced that Damar – along with his fellow Elversberg loan returnee Fisnik Asllani – would deliver a breakthrough campaign. Damar simply couldn’t displace a resurgent Andrej Kramaric and the phenomenal Bazoumana Touré in the TSG attack. Damar found himself in the starting XI only twice amid his 15 Bundesliga appearances last season. Damar’s decision to return to the second German footballing flight may relate to the fact that interested Bundesliga parties Augsburg and Union Berlin also featured too much squad competition. Hoffenheim’s signing of Elverserg attacking standout Bambassa Conté certainly left Damar with little prospects of playing time in Kraichgau. GGFN  |  Peter Weis
