Everton Have Stepped Up For €25m Forward: Why Is It A Gamble? Everton have stepped up their scouting of FC Midtjylland forward Franculino Djú. A raft of English clubs are now keeping tabs on the 21-year-old, with TEAMtalk reporting that Goodison officials are right in the thick of the race. Getting him out of Denmark, though, is going to cost a fortune. That is not just posturing. They knocked back a €25 million bid from the Saudi Pro League earlier this summer, so anyone expecting a bargain can forget about it. The numbers Djú posted during the 2025/26 Superligaen campaign are silly. He finished as the competition’s top scorer, bagging 17 goals in 21 games. Throw in three assists across just 1,341 minutes of action, and you get a clearer picture of his impact. He averaged 1.14 goals per 90 minutes. That ranked him dead first across the entire Danish top flight. He was also tested in the Europa League, which gave him a taste of European football away from domestic duties. Transfermarkt puts his current value at roughly €13 million. Midtjylland could not care less about that figure. Their absolute refusal to negotiate below €25 million shows how massive the gap is between theoretical market valuations and real-world transfer negotiations. A massive gamble for Everton Everton need a striker. Badly. Nobody is going to argue against that. Whether Djú is actually the right fit at that price, though, is a completely different conversation. The Superliga is decent. Midtjylland are regular fixtures in European qualifiers, so the level is respectable, but it is hardly the Premier League. Making the jump from Denmark to the top flight in England is tricky. Plenty of players have tried it and struggled with the physical intensity and lack of time on the ball. The drop-off in production can be brutal. What makes the 6ft 1in forward an exciting option is his continental experience. He did not look out of place in Europe this past term. He hit the target with nearly 60% of his shots, which is elite for someone his age. Everton are only just finding their feet after years of living under the shadow of PSR restrictions. Throwing that kind of cash at a single gamble feels reckless. David Moyes has other fires to fight in this squad. Midfield needs fresh legs. Right-back is a glaring issue. Splashing the majority of the summer budget on a forward from the Danish league while leaving those positions thin makes little sense. If Moyes can track down a winger or a centre-forward with proven Premier League history for a reasonable fee, that has to take priority. Djú is an exciting talent, but the price tag makes him a luxury Everton simply cannot afford right now.
