Christos Tzolis unveiled by Arsenal: What does Greek star bring to Premier League champions?
Greece playmaker Christos Tzolis is making the move to the Premier League after Arsenal reached an agreement with Club Brugge. The deal is for a rumored $45 million and Tzolis has signed a contract through the 2030-31 season. Tzolis, 24, exploded for 17 goals and 23 assists in 36 league games last season — second in the Belgian league for goals and tops in helpers — also bagging three goals and five assists in 13 UEFA Champions League matches. MORE — Latest Premier League transfer rumors The left winger has nine goals and three assists in 34 caps for Greece, but all but three of those goal contributions have come in his last 21 appearances dating back to 2024. Tzolis spent two seasons in Belgium following a 22-goal, 9-assist run for Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 2.Bundesliga. He was with Norwich City in the 2021-22 Premier League season, making 14 appearances to total 328 minutes as a 19-year-old. What are the expectations for Christos Tzolis at Arsenal? Tzolis slides neatly into the fold for Leandro Trossard, who is off to Turkiye, but is he competing for a spot or expected to star on the left wing? Bukayo Saka is the star on the right side and Viktor Gyokeres will be in the middle, but Mikel Arteta's third forward remains an unsettled situation. Trossard was first-choice for much of Arsenal's title-winning season, with Gabriel Martinelli filling a lot of the other opportunities although generally not to great effect. Eberechi Eze was deployed more than a bit on the left when not at attacking mid. Noni Madueke is a right winger but was occasionally used on the left while young Max Dowman was almost exclusively a right winger off the bench. Most players need some time to adjust to the rigors of the Premier League and it's been a while since Tzolis last hit a PL pitch, but there should be less of a learning curve here. Tzolis was a menace against Salzburg and Rangers in Champions League qualifying, then recorded goals against Atletico Madrid and Atalanta while nabbing an assist against Barcelona in the tournament proper. He should compete for starts and get meaningful minutes early in his North London career. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta on Christos Tzolis rrom arsenal.com “Christos is an extremely versatile attacking player who naturally operates on the left but is comfortable across the front line. He’s an excellent finisher with both feet, thrives in tight spaces, and possesses incredible technical ability. “Christos has produced outstanding numbers in terms of goals and assists over the last three seasons, and he’s a player who will raise the technical level of our squad, while bringing positive energy, enthusiasm, and a strong mentality to our team. “We’re confident Christos will make a significant contribution to our club, and we hope our supporters will enjoy watching him play in an Arsenal shirt. “We look forward to sharing this exciting new chapter together.”
