Watford sign defender Greenwood Watford have completed the signing of defender Hannah Greenwood on a free transfer. The Golden Girls announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon. The 27-year-old defender joins Watford after leaving former club Sunderland at the end of last season. Greenwood spent one year on Wearside. She made 17 appearances for The Lady Black Cats in Barclays WSL2 in 2025/2026. Greenwood is hugely experienced at Barclays WSL2 level. She came through the youth system at Durham before featuring for their Cestria side. The defender then went on to make 21 appearances for the club’s senior side in the second tier. In summer 2023, Greenwood joined Newcastle United and she helped the club win the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division title in her first season on Tyneside. The player spent two seasons with The Magpies, making 48 appearances and scoring five goals. Greenwood was then snapped up by Sunderland last summer. Greenwood will now hope to pass her second tier football knowledge on to new club Watford. The Golden Girls are bidding to carry on the upward momentum off the back of last season’s FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title win. Greenwood is Watford’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
