A suitor makes their move for a Manchester City keeper who is now certain to depart
A suitor makes their move for a Manchester City keeper who is now certain to depart Unfortunately, it has appeared certain that James Trafford will eventually leave Manchester City this summer. Trafford found himself as Manchester City’s second-choice goalkeeper last season behind Gianluigi Donnarumma. Even with Enzo Maresca taking over as City manager, the odds were that Trafford would depart City to be the number-one goalkeeper elsewhere. Trafford is far too ambitious and too talented to be a second-choice keeper. It has now been reported that Leeds United are making their move to sign Trafford, which will give Trafford the opportunity to be the first-choice goalkeeper that he so desperately craves. Leeds United are pushing to sign James Trafford. David Ornstein has reported for The Athletic that Leeds United are in talks with Manchester City to sign James Trafford. Furthermore, it has also been reported that Trafford is coming around to the idea of moving to Elland Road. Ornstein further reports that Newcastle United, who were once considered a destination for Trafford, are no longer interested in signing the England international. It now appears that Leeds United are the favourites to sign James Trafford. A move to Leeds United would give James Trafford the opportunity he craves as Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to be Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper once again. There is no doubt that James Trafford is good enough to be the number-one goalkeeper for a Premier League club and potentially England’s first-choice keeper for a significant period of time. He has displayed this throughout his young career and his performances in Manchester City’s FA Cup and Carabao Cup wins last season further emphasized this point. A move to Leeds United would give Trafford the platform he craves and the opportunity he is desperate to receive. It is now seemingly only a matter of time before Trafford moves to Elland Road if Leeds United can meet Manchester City’s asking price for one of the top young English goalkeepers. The other side of the Trafford equation is that Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to be Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper under Enzo Maresca. That statement isn’t controversial or a major surprise. However, with Trafford likely to leave Manchester City, there will be no competition for the first-choice keeper role in Enzo Maresca’s squad. Donnarumma will hold that mantle and City will enter next season with one of the world’s premier goalkeepers as their number-one goalkeeper. A move to Leeds United may be on the cards for James Trafford. Trafford has always appeared destined to leave Manchester City this summer and now it looks like gis destination will be Elland Road as he bids to establish himself as one of England’s top goalkeepers.
