‘Overwhelmingly positive’ – Jose Mourinho’s impact at Real Madrid already being felt

‘Overwhelmingly positive’ – Jose Mourinho’s impact at Real Madrid already being felt Jose Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid has brought a noticeable change to the training ground, with players already adapting to the high standards and intensity expected by the Portuguese coach. According to Guillermo Rai in The Athletic , the atmosphere at Valdebebas has been described as “overwhelmingly positive” since Mourinho began work, with the manager combining demanding training sessions with a hands-on approach that has impressed those around the first team. Despite inheriting a depleted squad because of the FIFA World Cup, Mourinho has wasted little time implementing his methods as he prepares Real Madrid for the new campaign. Mourinho setting the tone on training pitch Mourinho took charge of his first training session on July 13, but preparations began under unusual circumstances.  As many as 14 first-team players were absent after representing their countries at the World Cup, forcing the new manager to work with a squad made up of available senior players and several academy prospects. Even with limited numbers, the report says Mourinho has been heavily involved in every session.  He has regularly been seen leading drills himself, offering instructions throughout training and carefully observing every exercise. Sources at Valdebebas describe the Portuguese as a demanding coach who expects high standards every day but remains approachable and closely engaged with his players throughout each session. That balance between intensity and communication has helped create a positive environment during the opening weeks of pre-season. High-tempo sessions and double training days The report adds that Mourinho has immediately increased the physical demands placed on the squad. Training sessions have been carried out at a high tempo, with frequent double sessions forming part of the programme as Real Madrid work to build fitness ahead of the new season.  Particular emphasis has also been placed on strength and conditioning, an area Mourinho considers essential before introducing more tactical work. Understandably, as more World Cup internationals return to Valdebebas, the intensity is expected to increase further as the Portuguese coach begins working with a full squad for the first time. While it is still too early to judge Mourinho’s second spell, his influence is already being felt in training. The demanding training schedule, close involvement in every exercise and positive response from the squad suggest the manager is establishing the culture he wants at Valdebebas.
