'His commitment to the club was exceptional' - Gueye leaves Everton

[Getty Images] Everton have announced Idrissa Gana Gueye has left the club after spending seven years on Merseyside across two spells. The Toffees confirmed the 36-year-old "will pursue a new challenge elsewhere" and that he provided "seven seasons of top-quality service to the Blues." The Senegalese defensive midfielder first joined Everton under ex-boss Ronald Koeman in 2016, and was sold to Paris St-Germain for a fee in the region of £30m in 2019. Gueye scored seven goals in 111 games for PSG, winning both Ligue 1 and the French Cup twice before returning to Goodison Park on a two-year deal for a fee of around £2m in 2022. On his return to Everton, Gueye was crowned the club's player of the season in 2024-25, and was named players' player of the season twice throughout his career at the Merseyside club. Everton boss, David Moyes said: "Everyone at Everton is hugely grateful for Gana's dedication, professionalism and influence on the pitch throughout his two spells at the Club. "His leadership qualities in and around the dressing room proved crucial, particularly in our final season at Goodison. His commitment to the club over many years was exceptional."
