Hansi Flick loses faith in Barcelona captain as summer exit becomes real possibility Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona has taken an unexpected twist after fresh reports suggest Hansi Flick is no longer convinced the Dutch midfielder should remain a key part of his plans. According to Gerard Romero , the Barcelona manager has grown increasingly unconvinced by De Jong’s recent performances and overall role within the squad.  As a result, the club could now consider offers for the midfielder if the right proposal arrives before the transfer window closes. The development comes just days after reports claimed that the relationship between Flick and De Jong had deteriorated , raising questions over the long-term future of one of Barcelona’s most experienced players. As reported before, the turning point came during Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atletico Madrid in the 2025/26 season. De Jong had been cleared by Barcelona’s medical staff to start the match and was expected to play around an hour.  However, despite receiving medical approval, the Dutch international is said to have decided against featuring, preferring not to take any unnecessary risks. That decision significantly changed Flick’s opinion of the midfielder, with the relationship between the pair deteriorating from that point onwards. This means if a suitable offer arrives during the summer transfer window, the club could be prepared to part ways with De Jong, marking a significant shift in stance compared to previous windows when he was considered untouchable. The Dutchman remains one of the senior figures in the dressing room, but his current knee injury has already left Barcelona waiting for clarity over his return.  Now, uncertainty over his place in Flick’s long-term plans has only added more tension to the situation.
