Sami Khedira takes center stage in Mourinho’s new Real Madrid setup
Sami Khedira takes center stage in Mourinho’s new Real Madrid setup Visibly annoyed by the experience of the last two trophyless seasons, Real Madrid seem intent on putting things right this summer as they made another managerial change and are now going into their next project with Jose Mourinho in charge of the team. The Portuguese manager has come with his own coaching staff. Even some long-term employees of the club, like the goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis, have been relieved of their duties with the first team. However, the coach has decided on a novel approach regarding the fitness department, as he will continue to work with Antonio Pintus, while also bringing in another of his trusted assistants from Benfica. Although all these changes are going to have a notable impact on the team, the most prominent individual in Mourinho’s staff is the former Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, who is going to be the assistant manager. The German is going to be a crucial part of the staff, as he will be the link between the coach and the players. In fact, as Cadena Ser has noted, he was seen performing these duties as the Merengues faced Alcorcon in a training match yesterday, which ended in a 1-0 win for Los Blancos. The assistant manager was seen to be closely involved with the players in the rondos, both before the start of the match and during the half-time break, which were led by Mourinho’s right-hand man, Joao Tralhao. While such a role is important in normal contexts as well, Sami Khedira is going to be a key member of the staff especially keeping in view all the problems surrounding the Real Madrid dressing room last season. There were reports of several players not getting along well, and there was even an all-out fight between Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde. Hopefully, his presence will keep things in check going forward.
