‘I’m in a good state’: Tottenham star Xavi Simons issues update on long-term injury

‘I’m in a good state’: Tottenham star Xavi Simons issues update on long-term injury Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons has shared an encouraging update on his recovery from a serious knee injury, confirming that he’s making progress as he works towards returning to action. The Netherlands international suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during Spurs’ Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers in April.  After undergoing surgery the following month, the injury ruled him out for the rest of the season and ended any hopes of playing for the Dutch national team at the World Cup. It was a major setback for Simons, who was expected to play an important role for the Netherlands after impressing throughout their qualification campaign.  Instead, he watched from the sidelines as his country exited the tournament in the first knockout round following a penalty shootout defeat to Morocco. In a recent interview, Simons admitted that the early days after the injury were among the toughest moments of his career.  However, he explained that changing his mindset helped him deal with the long rehabilitation process. “I’m in a good state right now [with] my knee,” Simons said (via The Standard ). “When they tell you how long this injury is, and for me the first two days were really hard.  “But after that, I told myself, don’t put the pressure really, really high on myself, and I’m seeing improvement every day, and that’s something that makes me really happy.” Simons also reflected on the emotional impact of missing the World Cup.  Having made his tournament debut in Qatar four years earlier, he believed this year’s competition would have given him the chance to make a much bigger contribution to the national team. “This World Cup was a little bit different because I [felt that I] really could help the team to achieve the goal,” he explained. “When it happened on the pitch, the first reaction was, ‘Oh, the World Cup.’ “I have to be happy just walking again, going to the toilet and even having a drink with my family. So, that was something that really hit into my head.” While his recovery is progressing well, Tottenham will not rush him back into action. Current expectations suggest the midfielder will return sometime in the 2026/27 season .
