West Ham draw shows McInnes 'we need to strengthen'

Rangers manager Derek McInnes says Sunday's goalless draw with West Ham United in his side's final pre-season friendly showed "it's clear certain areas we need strengthened still". The Ibrox club have brought in seven new players for McInnes' first transfer window since arriving from Hearts. "There's been good work done by the club and there's still a good few weeks of the window left for us to try and address that," he told Rangers TV. "we're still actively trying to bring in reinforcements, but hopefully we can address it as soon as possible." Two World Cup midfielders - Norway's Thelo Aasgaard and Australia's Cammy Devlin - picked up knocks against West Ham, but McInnes does not expect either to miss Friday's Scottish Premiership opener against Dundee United. "Thelo landed on his shoulder a bit awkwardly, but we think he'll be okay for Friday and Cammy took a kick in his calf and again he's assured that he'll be fine for the game," he said. McInnes was disappointed that his side were not able to give the 48,000 fans a goal or a victory but thinks "it was a step on" from the midweek draw with St Etienne. "In terms of the team we were up against, there was a demand for concentration needed for the game and I thought, on that side of it, getting the clean sheet and not too many scares in the game I thought we were quite alright," he added. "It is just disappointing we didn't make more of some good positions, either our final cross or turning down chances to shoot, and try to put them under a big more pressure."
