Over the weekend, it was suddenly announced that Real Madrid had swooped in and lined up a deal for the Ivory Coast winger. That prompted frustration from PSG fans, and the club ended up putting out a fiery statement to explain their actions. PSG reject “disproportionate” winger demands It said that the club had “officially withdrawn its interest” and “ended all negotiations” for the winger. “The transfer fee being demanded, as well as the player’s salary expectations, were completely disproportionate and of such a scale that they would have distorted the market. PSG will not compromise its principles of rigorous financial management and squad balance,” the club continued. It’s fair enough – they’re in a strong position and don’t need to let themselves get messed around.
