Transfer insider Florian Plettenberg has just Tweeted that Liverpool have “opened talks” with Bradley Barcola’s camp and with PSG as they try to sign the France winger this summer. Plettenberg calls him Liverpool’s “top transfer target” and says the Reds are “determined to sign him before Deadline Day.” Recent reports have seen the price tag quoted as high as £170m, as PSG look at other moves this summer as a benchmark. Barcola’s importance increases as PSG sales go on Plettenberg calls the deal “complicated” and says it will “largely come down to the financial package.” That’s certainly true – and there’s more to it than that. With Kang-in Lee and Goncalo Ramos already gone, Ibrahim Mbaye pushing to go, and Yan Diomande’s arrival off the table, there’s now a major question about whether PSG can even afford to let Barcola go. His route to first team minutes is now clearer – and selling him for anything other than the huge money they’re asking for would surely be a mistake. In other news… Ibrahim Mbaye’s future in Paris has been in doubt for some time – with a really damning assessment of his situation coming from a French journalist today. PSG have also been involved in some other winger drama in the last days – they had to release an angry statement explaining why they had pulled out of talks to sign Yan Diomande.
