Bayer Leverkusen target two fullbacks Kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen are pursuing Olympique Marseille defender Facundo Medina for the left-back position while also considering KRC Genk’s Zakaria El Ouahdi as a candidate at right-back. Medina has emerged as a leading option to replace Alejandro Grimaldo following the Spaniard’s move to Atlético Madrid. The Argentine international can operate both as a left-back and on the left side of central defence, offering Bayer a profile similar to former Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. The 14-time Argentina international made five appearances at the World Cup, starting three matches and later featuring as a substitute in the final. Marseille are reportedly demanding at least €25 million for the defender, who remains under contract through 2030. The French club only signed Medina permanently from RC Lens last summer following an initial loan spell, investing approximately €20 million in the deal. Medina’s defensive strength could allow Leverkusen to recruit a more attack-minded player on the opposite flank. El Ouahdi has subsequently emerged as an option at right-back. The 24-year-old Morocco international remains under contract with Genk through 2028 and has demonstrated considerable attacking quality in Belgium. He has registered 12 goals and six assists in 43 league and Europa League appearances. El Ouahdi has also earned four senior international caps and featured as a substitute during Morocco’s World Cup quarterfinal defeat to France.
