Mancini is set to return as Italy’s head coach for a second stint, Malagò confirmed during a press conference on Tuesday. It is what Paolo Maldini had agreed to, and you must realise that we made a fundamental modification of the statute for Club Italia. Mancini already coached Italy from 2018 to 2023, winning Euro 2020, which was played in 2021, but also failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. He suddenly stepped down in August 2023, becoming the Saudi Arabia national team coach just a few weeks later. A recent poll said that over 80% of people in Italy believe Mancini is not the right man for the job. “Of course I took that into account,” Malagò concluded. “I won’t say what he will talk about, but I assume he’ll discuss this in tomorrow’s press conference.
