Barcelona request priority target to publicly state his desire to join the club – report As we slowly approach the start of the new season, time is running out for Barcelona to sign their top attacking target Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid have remained resilient and do not want to sell their star player to a direct rival, even as the player himself has handed in a transfer request. The Spanish giants are having none of it and have asked Barcelona to meet his release clause worth half a billion euros. This has forced Barcelona to play the waiting game. After the player publicly announced his desire to leave, Barcelona now want the Argentine to make one more nudge to further pressurise Atletico Madrid. The Catalans want him to publicly state his desire to Barcelona, which will surely corner Atletico Madrid, knowing that the player will not entertain a move to any other club. This comes on the back of earlier reports that suggested Alvarez himself was preparing for one more push in his bid to join Barça. The Argentine international is tipped to return to Atletico Madrid and resume training on August 10, before which, he must finalise his move to Catalonia. So time is running out. Nevertheless, it remains a possibility as Alvarez is indeed keen on joining the Blaugrana heading into the new season. In the background, though, Barcelona are preparing for life without Alvarez as well, in case they fail to sign the Argentine forward this summer. The club have already been linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, although the Premier League club’s hefty demands may have already priced them out of a move.
