WSL: Hannah Hampton commits her future to Chelsea with new two-year contract England’s number one Hannah Hampton has signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea.  Hampton joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2023, and has gone on to cement herself as both Chelsea and England’s first choice goalkeeper. Over the past three years, she’s won five trophies with Chelsea, starred for England as the Lionesses retained their European title and was awarded the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or awards in 2025, recognising her as the best goalkeeper in the world. The 25-year-old was born in Birmingham but moved to Spain at the age of five. It was at Villarreal where she showed her potential, initially as an outfield player, before moving back to the UK just before her 11th birthday. Hampton switched to become a goalkeeper a year later while at Stoke City before a move to Birmingham City aged 15. She excelled during her time with Birmingham City. A move to West Midlands rivals Aston Villa followed in 2021 and it was there where she would make her senior England debut later that season, as she kept a clean sheet against Spain. Hampton was also part of the England squad that won Euro 2022 and reached the 2023 Women’s World Cup final. She helped Chelsea to an unbeaten domestic treble in 2024-25 and has claimed back-to-back Golden Glove awards in the WSL. Everyone at Chelsea made it feel like a home away from home and somewhere I have been able to grow not only as a player but as a person. “I don’t want that journey to stop and I want to continue to grow more and learn more as a person. I’m happy and I know there is so much more I can achieve and so much more as a team we can achieve. I am going to do everything I can to help Chelsea get back to being as successful as we have been in the past.” Hampton is a crucial part of the Chelsea squad as they wish to bounce back from a disappointing 2025/26 campaign. Not only has she been crowned the best goalkeeper in the world, she’s also regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the WSL, and one of Chelsea’s key players.
