Sancho hasn’t yet given a response, but his team will be ready to resolve any concerns in the coming hours. Last year, he turned down a move to Roma, as Gian Piero Gasperini expressly asked Frederic Massara for him. While he chose to stay in the Premier League for the remainder of that term, it now looks like he’ll leave England. His rising status took him from the academies of Watford and Manchester City, before he became a poster boy for a British generation trying their hand abroad. Loans to Dortmund, Chelsea, and Aston Villa only managed to recapture glimmers of the old Sancho before he was allowed to leave Manchester. Now, he finds himself in the Fiorentina bidding bracket, and with Dortmund looking to throw their hat back into the ring, it feels right that it’d be third time’s the charm for the 23-cap-earning international. This writer’s question is not how deep Fiorentina’s pockets are, but what exactly can they offer aside from a starring role in a midtable side? They may have made several signings already this window, but this move to Florence has signs of being ill-fated. Would Sancho be prepared to take a pay cut? Additionally, would he be ready for the pace and style of Italian football, in comparison to a German return? The latter certainly feels more likely as the remedy for this somewhat wayward star.
