Lynch agreed that business still needs to be completed, but urged patience. “I will remain adamant, as boring as this is, that I just want them to do the right business.” He added: “I don’t want them to rush into things.” Although he acknowledged Liverpool still need additions, Lynch believes quality should remain the priority. “I really want them to do the right business and I want them to do business.” He also admitted there are positions where Liverpool simply cannot afford to be left short. “They really can’t be left short in certain areas.” Defensive Reinforcement Cannot Wait The biggest concern discussed throughout the podcast centred on Liverpool’s defensive depth, particularly following Joe Gomez’s latest injury. Lynch argued Liverpool’s plans should never have depended on Gomez remaining available. “They have to sign someone who can play centre back and right back. It’s as simple as that for me.” He was equally firm when discussing Gomez’s role within the squad. “They just can’t rely on him.” Even before the latest injury, Lynch believed Liverpool required another defender capable of covering multiple positions. He also warned against viewing Gomez’s latest setback as the reason for changing transfer plans. “That was true before he went down injured.” Later in the discussion, Lynch reinforced his view. “If the window closes without that happening, I think Liverpool, it will hurt them in some way in the season.” Photo: IMAGO Forward Addition Also Remains Essential Alongside defensive recruitment, Lynch believes Liverpool must continue pursuing another attacker. As the conversation turned towards the overall size of the squad, he outlined the club’s current priorities. “You clearly need another forward to replace Mohamed Salah.” Lynch believes those two positions stand above everything else if Liverpool keep the rest of the squad intact. He explained: “If they add two signings to this and they don’t lose anyone, I’m absolutely okay with that.” Those additions would dramatically improve the balance of Iraola’s squad. “You’re suddenly looking a lot more healthy in that position.” Outgoings Could Change Liverpool’s Plans Lynch also acknowledged that Liverpool’s business may not stop at two arrivals. Everything depends on player departures during the remainder of the window. “There probably will be sales and movement.” If midfielders leave or Cody Gakpo departs, Liverpool’s recruitment plans could quickly expand. Lynch concluded: “It’s maybe two right now but it could end up being they need four, they need five.” That uncertainty explains why Liverpool continue assessing multiple areas of the squad while remaining patient in negotiations.
