What can Rangers fans expect from McInnes this season?

It might not be the most scintillating football, but Rangers will be effective under "perfect fit" Derek McInnes this season. That's the verdict of coach and analyst - and Rangers supporter - John Walker as McInnes prepares for his first campaign as Ibrox boss. Rangers began last season with a short and calamitous tenure of Russell Martin and ended it with a third-place finish following a post-split collapse under Danny Rohl. Since then Rohl has departed and ex-Hearts boss, and former Rangers midfielder, McInnes has become the club's third head coach inside a year. With new arrivals like former Hearts pair Lawrence Shankland and Cammy Devlin, Walker is expecting a much more pragmatic approach from Rangers this season. "I've championed Russell Martin, I've championed a different style of play, I've championed a different philosophy," he told the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast . "I think sometimes with football clubs you're just batting your head against the wall and I think Derek McInnes was the perfect fit for this club right now. "Rangers fans are at that point now where we want entertained but I think as long as we're not getting embarrassed by teams at the back, as long as you're dominating the ball and creating chances, that will appease most fans and I think that's you get with Derek McInnes. "You'll get creative wide players when the club's signed them for him and you've got strikers that can score goals and you've got midfielders like Cammy Devlin who will win the ball back for, hopefully, other midfielders that can control the game, create chances. "Hopefully we don't see the calamity at the back that we've seen so often last season."
