It emerged earlier that Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur were considering a significant bid to test Barcelona’s resolve over one of Hansi Flick’s most important defenders. Now, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano , Spurs are not interested in the 27-year-old this summer and a move is not on the cards. The journalist has now played down those claims, saying there is no interest and no negotiations between the two clubs, and that the Londoners were not preparing a €65 million move. This will come as welcome news for Barça, where Kounde remains one of the first names on Flick’s team sheet. Whether operating at right-back or in central defence, the 27-year-old has established himself as one of the squad’s most reliable performers thanks to his consistency. Given his importance, Barcelona would have had little reason to entertain offers unless they were extraordinary, particularly with the club aiming to compete for every major trophy this season. The German manager has the likes of Hector Fort, Eric Garcia and Xavi Espart, who can all play at right-back, allowing him to use Kounde more creatively. When Premier League clubs make an approach for one of Barça’s best players, it is always a cause for concern, but this rumour does not seem to have any legs. Kounde looks set to stay at Barcelona for the upcoming season and, after a difficult campaign last time around, he will be keen to bounce back and impress. Unless an offer comes in that is too good to resist, the Catalan club shouldn’t consider a sale for Les Bleus’ defender.
