Southampton sign Santos and McInnes
Southampton sign Santos and McInnes Southampton have completed the double-signing of goalkeeper Alina Santos and midfielder Libbi McInnes. The Saints announced news of both deals via posts on their official club website earlier today. Goalkeeper Santos’ arrival was announced first. The 22-year-old arrives on the South Coast following a spell playing her football in the American college system with the University of Denver. She was a member of the club’s soccer programme for three years. On the international stage, Santos has four caps to her name for New Zealand. Midfielder McInnes soon followed. The 21-year-old joins Southampton after leaving former club Sunderland earlier this summer. McInnes came through The Lady Black Cats’ academy system before featuring heavily at first team level. She made 74 appearances for Sunderland in all competitions. After joining Southampton, Santos said “I’m really looking forward to being here, I want to make a mark coming in new to this level. “I feel like this is a great environment for me to grow as a player and as a person as well.” McInnes added “I loved every minute of my time at Sunderland, but it’s time for a new change, a new challenge, and I’m excited to get going. “I like to make things happen going forwards but I also like the other side of the ball, getting stuck in. I’m really looking forward to the season and hopefully starting in a good way.” Santos and McInnes are Southampton’s first summer signings.
