Chelsea star Romeo Lavia suffers yet another injury setback in pre-season Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has suffered another injury setback after missing the pre-season victory over Western Sydney Wanderers because of hamstring discomfort, according to talkSPORT . The Belgian was absent as Chelsea began their pre-season campaign with an entertaining 6-4 win in Sydney, with Xabi Alonso fielding several academy stars. The 22-year-old has struggled to stay fit since arriving from Southampton, with recurring hamstring problems preventing him from establishing himself in the first team.  He has made only 21 appearances for Chelsea and still hasn’t completed a full 90 minutes for the club. His latest issue came shortly before the game at Accor Stadium, although Alonso played down fears of a serious injury, explaining that Lavia had some discomfort in his hamstring. However, the Spanish manager confirmed that the injury wasn’t expected to keep Lavia out for too long. The Chelsea boss said the injury was “not a big thing” and hoped that the midfielder would be fit in time for Saturday’s pre-season meeting with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Sydney. Despite the encouraging update, Chelsea may still decide to manage Lavia’s recovery carefully given his recent injury history.  The Blues will be eager to avoid rushing the midfielder back before he is fully ready, especially with the new Premier League season on the horizon. Before the injury concern, Lavia had spoken positively about Chelsea’s preparations under Alonso.  In a diary entry released by the club, the midfielder praised the new head coach and described the atmosphere around the squad as encouraging. “We have all enjoyed working under the new manager, and he has great experience in the game,” he wrote. “Pre-season so far has been about getting the basics in place to build on, because we want to have a great season. “Personally, I’m feeling good. I did a lot of work with people at the club to ensure I was ready and could start pre-season strong once we got going.  “Now come the games, and we’re looking forward to getting out in front of the fans.” Meanwhile, Chelsea have been active in the transfer market this summer and are looking to sign a new midfielder, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott on the club’s radar .
