WSL2 FIXTURES: Newly-promoted Watford and Burnley open campaign Newly-promoted duo Watford and Burnley will kick-off the action in Barclays WSL2 on the opening weekend of the 2026/2027 season. WSL Football revealed the 2026/2027 Barclays WSL2 fixtures this morning via an official press release. The opening game of the new Barclays WSL2 season will see last season’s FA Women’s National League divisional champions Watford and Burnley go head-to-head at Vicarage Road. Elsewhere on the opening weekend in Barclays WSL2, relegated Leicester City go to Sheffield United while Sunderland’s new era begins with a home fixture against Bristol City. Durham’s first game under new ownership sees them play host to Southampton while Ipswich Town have a home game against Nottingham Forest and newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers go to Newcastle United. All fixture dates and kick-off times will be announced in due course. 2026/2027 Barclays WSL2 – Opening Weekend Fixtures 4 Sept – Watford v Burnley 6 Sept – Durham v Southampton 6 Sept – Ipswich Town v Nottingham Forest 6 Sept – Newcastle United v Wolverhampton Wanderers 6 Sept – Sheffield United v Leicester City 6 Sept – Sunderland v Bristol City Despite the increase in the number of clubs competing in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season, it has been determined that Barclays WSL2 will continue to have 12 participating clubs. The long-term vision is to expand the league.
