Confirmed: Real Madrid suffers muscle injury in pre-season; out for six weeks

Confirmed: Real Madrid suffers muscle injury in pre-season; out for six weeks Real Madrid have officially announced that defender Raul Asencio has suffered a thigh injury during pre-season. “Following tests carried out today on our player Raul Asencio by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his right leg. His recovery will be monitored,” the club statement read. Six weeks out While the statement from the Merengues does not specify a recovery time, an update from journalist Arancha Rodriguez , citing club sources, claims that Asencio will now be sidelined for a period of six weeks. This could cause hindrance to Real Madrid’s plans of wanting to offload the academy graduate before the summer transfer window closes. While the Spaniard has returned to pre-season with the motivation of convincing new manager Jose Mourinho, the club do not see him as a part of the plans for the upcoming campaign. Instead, the Portuguese tactician is eager to sign another new defender, having already brought in Ibrahima Konate as a free agent. As such, Asencio has been earmarked as one of the players likely to be sold before the summer window even though he has been reluctant to leave the club. Now, the injury, which will keep him out for around six weeks, could complicate matters with regard to a summer departure. This is Real Madrid’s second injury in pre-season after young midfielder Thiago Pitarch was sidelined for around 6-8 weeks earlier this month.
