Arsenal join PSG and Tottenham in transfer race for Spain World Cup hero
Arsenal join PSG and Tottenham in transfer race for Spain World Cup hero Arsenal have joined Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Ferran Torres. This is according to Estadio Deportivo who report the Gunners have made enquiries about the Barcelona striker. Torres was the hero for Spain at the World Cup, netting the decisive goal in extra-time against Argentina in the final . His impressive displays at the summer tournament have put him on the radar of PSG and Tottenham. Now Arsenal have also joined the transfer race for the striker. Barcelona are keen to extend Torres’ contract that is due to expire next year in June. But negotiations over an extension have yet to produce an agreement, increasing pressure on the Spanish side to cash in rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer. Torres’ situation has alerted Arsenal who are looking to reinforce their attacking options. The North Londoners are said to be attracted by the Spaniard’s ability to play on either wing or through the middle. Torres began his career at Valencia where he made 97 appearances before a £21m move to Manchester City in 2020. The 26-year-old has built his reputation as a reliable goalscorer since joining Barcelona for £55m in December 2021. Torres has made 207 appearances across all competitions for the Catalan club, scoring 65 goals and assisting further 23. However, it appears he wants a new challenge at another club and could be tempted to join Arsenal, who won the Premier League title last season and also reached the Champions League final.
