๐ŸŒŽ World Cup Moments: Ronaldinho's outrageous lob against England

๐ŸŒŽ World Cup Moments: Ronaldinho's outrageous lob against England Ronaldinho's winner for Brazil in the 2002 World Cup quarter-final against England remains one of the most hotly-debated goals in tournament history. The argument effectively boils down to whether or not the former Ballon d'Or winner meant to lob goalkeeper David Seaman from 35+ yards or if it was an attempted cross and he had gotten lucky. And the man himself hasn't exactly helped with that confusion in attempting to unravel the mystery of one of the most memorable World Cup goals. "When I hit the ball I wanted to shoot at goal but maybe not exactly where the ball ended up," he told FIFA TV. "If I'm being totally honest, I was aiming for the other side of the net." Two years ago though, he was a little more honest about the effort. "No it wasn't on purpose," admitted the former Barcelona star in 2022. "We had studied England and I knew Seaman tended to take one or two steps off his line but I was lucky that the ball went in the way it did." Ronaldinho actually went on to be sent off later in the game but the tournament had a happy ending for him and the Seleรงao as they defeated Germany to win their fifth World Cup.
