Mullins' Newport enjoy friendly win at Yeovil

New Newport County manager Hayden Mullins celebrated his appointment with a 2-1 pre-season win against Yeovil Town at Huish Park. The former Crystal Palace and West Ham United midfielder was announced as Exiles boss on Friday morning and was in the dugout on Saturday afternoon. He was treated to a victory as the League Two side came from behind to beat their hosts from the National League. Yeovil opened the scoring when Luke McCormick was set up by Slavi Spasov but County were level at the break thanks to a goal by summer signing Shaquille Gwengwe. The striker, who scored 47 times for Poole Town last season to win the Southern League Golden Boot, turned in a Matt Smith set-piece. The Wales midfielder created the Exiles' second in similar fashion with defender Lee Jenkins scoring five minutes after the restart. County now turn their attention to a glamour friendly at Rodney Parade on Tuesday (19:00 BST) against a Roma side who were humbled 4-1 by Cardiff City in the Welsh capital. Mullins' men are building towards their competitive opener at AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup on Saturday, 8 August (15:00 BST). Newport County What do Newport need ahead of League Two campaign?
