Sky thump Lochaber in relegation battle contest

[BBC] Skye dramatically bounced straight out of the Mowi Premiership relegation zone with a 7-0 eclipse of Lochaber at Spean. They also took full advantage of Col Glen's 4-1 defeat by Kingussie and of Kyles' 8-0 rout by Kinlochshiel. Kingussie's victory reduced Newtonmore's Mowi Premiership lead to five points with a game in hand. Oban Camanachd prevailed 4-3 over Fort William to consolidate third place. Kilmallie moved up to a distant third in the National Division when they defeated Glasgow Mid Argyll 4-1 at Yoker. Glengarry broke the deadlock in the last minute at the Bught Park to win the Chieftain's Cup for the third time in four seasons against Lewis who were contesting their first ever final. Doubles from Archie Millar, Dan MacDonald and Jordan Murchison and one from Willie MacKinnon secured Skye's first win of the season and a spectacular rebound from bottom place to overtake both Col Glen and Kyles. Kingussie's whirlwind start against visitors Col Glen saw a first minute opener from Alexander Michie, with Calum McLay following up a minute later. Sam Bulloch quickly brought it back to 2-1 but McLay completed his double and Jack Nelson also found the net to complete the scoring before half time. Ali Nixon grabbed four for Shiel while David Falconer contributed two more. andJay and John MacRae got one each without reply from Kyles in one way traffic at Rearaig. This leaves Kyles, who have now conceded 50 goals in nine games, bottom with two points, behind Col Glen on two from 10 and Skye on three points from just eight played. A Lewis Cameron double split by a goal from Daniel MacVicar gave Oban Camanachd a 3-0 lead within half an hour. Victor Smith quickly struck back for Fort, but Lorne Dickie restored Camanachd's three goal cushion before half-time. Smith and Struan Stephen both responded for Fort William immediately after the restart, but Camanachd held on for a narrow victory. A week after lifting the Balliemore Cup, Calum MacDougal, Martin Stewart, Archie MacNiven and Ben MacKinnon all scored for Kilmallie before a late consolation from Mid Argyll's Ross Brown. Beauly and Bute drew 3-all. Raymond Robertson's late strike brought the Chieftain' Cup for shinty's single team clubs, back to Glengarry, strengthening the Lochaber side's claim to be the top club outwith the national leagues.
