Swansea close on left-back as transfer work goes on

Matos expects a swoop to land a left-sided defender to provide cover for Josh Tymon to be finalised in the next few days. Swansea are also in the market for a central midfielder having sold Ethan Galbraith and lost loanee Malick Yalcouye this summer, while another option at centre-back is also on the club's radar. The Championship side have brought in attacking midfielders Elijah Just, Joseph Opoku and Moussa Yeo and defender Stephen Welsh so far this summer. "The market is still open, and when it's open there's always possibilities, and that's where are at the moment," Matos said. "Of course we need a little more depth in some parts of the pitch and we are working on that. That's the project." Marko Stamenic started at the base of midfield as Swansea beat Leganes 1-0 in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday, with Just and Melker Widell playing in more advanced roles behind Adam Idah. Jay Fulton came off the bench in the second half but, with Goncalo Franco sidelined by a significant injury, Swansea are light on midfield options as they prepare for next Saturday's Carabao Cup tie against Birmingham City. "At the back as well, we still need cover. There are one or two more places where we need that depth and then we'll see how it goes." Almeida link is 'rumours' Reports in Spain have suggested Swansea are in for Valencia midfielder Andre Almeida. When asked about interest in his fellow Portuguese, Matos said: "It's rumours. When we have something to announce, we will announce it." He added: "It's the market. You always need to find possibilities you can have. I think that's what we've been doing. Looking through the profiles of players in the market and players we believe fit into style. "There are a lot of rumours, but when there's something concrete we will announce it." Having allowed Galbraith to join Stoke City, Swansea sold Liam Cullen to Leicester City on Friday and are also poised to bid farewell to Cameron Congreve, who is on the brink of a move to Westerlo. Centre-back Ricardo Santos joined Sheffield Wednesday and right-back Sam Parker has moved to Wycombe Wanderers on loan, but more departures are likely as Matos reshapes his squad.
