Ajax interested in a move for Barcelona youth player; seek 50% of his transfer rights The impact of Michel is already visible at Ajax as the club have roped in Barcelona star Marc-Andre ter Stegen on a loan deal until the end of the season. But Ajax are not done yet. They continue to monitor talents across Catalonia, as Michel looks to shore up his options and help Ajax return to its former glory. One player who is on Ajax’s radar is Jofre Torrents, who is widely expected to leave Barcelona this summer. Ajax interested in Torrents Torrents is expected to leave Barcelona this summer. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) According to Diario SPORT , Ajax have made a loan proposal with an option to buy for Torrents, which is currently being evaluated at the Barcelona offices. The full-back is one of La Masia’s brightest jewels, a left-back tipped for an important role in the future, but one who needs regular minutes to continue his development. As such, a departure this summer looks all but certain, with the youngster having received numerous offers from both Spain and across Europe. His future is expected to be resolved next week. The specifics of Ajax’s proposal are particularly interesting. The Dutch club would take Torrens on loan while covering his full salary, along with an option to buy 50% of his rights for €5 million. Barcelona would be able to buy that percentage back in the future, allowing them to retain control over the youngster while generating a small profit in the process. (Photo by Rafa Babot/Getty Images) Barcelona are increasingly prioritising sales with buy-back clauses to extract value from their assets while they develop elsewhere. It is worth noting that Barcelona held onto several of their young players this summer specifically to complete a squad without internationals during pre-season, allowing Hansi Flick to assess them at close quarters. Now, a number of those departures are expected to gather pace. Ajax’s interest is not limited to Torrens either, with the Dutch side also said to have enquired about defender Landry Farre. Ultimately, the decision will rest with Torrens and the club, but all signs point towards a move that suits both parties. The player would gain the game time he craves, while Barcelona would preserve the option of bringing him back should his career continue on its upward trajectory.
