Smith hungry for more after new Wrexham deal

[Getty Images] Wrexham Sam Smith believes his best is still to come after signing a new contract through to 2029. The 28-year-old has agreed fresh terms with the Championship club after proving to be a huge success since joining from Reading in January 2025. Smith has scored 17 goals in 66 games and, after helping secure League One promotion in his first campaign, was a key part in Wrexham's push for the play-offs in 2025-26. "I'm becoming a better and more experienced player," he said. "I know my role and what I can bring - I can't wait for the next three years." Smith was third in Wrexham's goal chart for the Championship last season with eight strikes, behind Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass on 11 and 16 respectively. The forward believes the club's progression under Phil Parkinson has helped him thrive. "The quality of players that we brought in allows me to get better service and to have people to find the runs and create the chances," said Smith, who was already under contract to 2028. "The higher I've gone up through the leagues, I've found that I've tended to do better. "You want to be in a team of quality players, all pushing for the same thing, which is promotion."
