Plymouth Argyle sweat on Baidoo injury news

Michael Baidoo was forced off in the first half of Plymouth Argyle's final pre-season friendly [Shutterstock] Plymouth Argyle are awaiting scan results to assess the severity of Michael Baidoo's hamstring injury. The Ghanaian forward, 27, was injured during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Bristol City in their final pre-season game. He has returned to the Pilgrims' squad this season after spending the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Qatari side Umm Salal. Baidoo became Argyle's record signing when he joined for more than £1m in January 2025 from Swedish side Elfsborg. He struggled to break into the side in the Championship, but has impressed since coming back into the fold under head coach Tom Cleverley this summer. "It's really unfortunate first of all for Michael, he's been excellent pre-season, his technical ability gives us good control in the attacking areas," Cleverley told BBC Radio Devon. "We're turning the ball over less, we can probe a little bit more but he has got a change of gear for those explosive moments. "I've been impressed with his intensity and maybe his body adapting to English football, the duels and how intense every action is. "I'm hoping that he came off just at the right time, but these things always need a couple of days to settle down and then we'll scan, so I won't have anything until Monday evening." With Argyle selling Lorent Tolaj to Bristol City and Caleb Watts and Tegan Finn suffering injuries, their attacking options are depleted. The club have had bids for a new striker rejected but Cleverley is hopeful they will get the right player in soon. "We need reinforcements, there's obviously bids in," he added. "Unfortunately, it takes two to tango when doing a deal, three if you include the player that you're trying to get. "We'll get there, I'm sure. I've complete and utter trust in how me, Derek (Adams, director of football) and David (Fox, head of football operations) work as a recruitment panel, with guys in the background of that as well, so we'll get there."
