A Portuguese winger is named as a Manchester City target as City chase more experience
A Portuguese winger is named as a Manchester City target as City chase more experience Manchester City take on the K-League All-Stars at the Seoul World Cup Stadium tomorrow in what will be their second friendly of their preseason tour of Asia. Speaking ahead of the match, City manager Enzo Maresca spoke of the amount of experience that City have lost this summer. Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Nathan Ake have all departed the club this summer. Maresca would like City to add more experience to their squad during the transfer window. On that front, Manchester City have now been linked with a move for Chelsea winger Pedro Neto. Pedro Neto would add experience to the City squad, especially if he comes in as a replacement for Savinho. Manchester City have reportedly begun talks with the camp of Chelsea winger Pedro Neto. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City have begun talks with the camp of Pedro Neto over a potential move from Chelsea to City. Furthermore, Romano reports that Neto has emerged as a City target if Savinho completes a move to Tottenham. Interestingly, Romano adds that Pedro Neto is a target for Tottenham if they cannot complete the signing of Savinho. Lastly, Romano adds that any potential City move for Pedro Neto is dependent on what Chelsea’s asking price is for the Portuguese winger. Pedro Neto signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea when he signed for the club from Wolves in August 2024. Pedro Neto would be an upgrade on Savinho, however Chelsea’s asking price and Neto’s injury record is a major red flag. Manchester City’s stance is that they will not sell Savinho unless they can bring in a replacement winger. On face value, Pedro Neto would be an upgrade on Savinho in terms of output. Neto scored 10 goals and added 10 assists in 52 appearances for Chelsea last season. Savinho scored 4 goals and added 3 assists in 36 appearances. Pedro Neto is 26 years old and is more of a finished product as a winger than Savinho. Savinho is 22 and has the potential to vastly improve as a player. However, Savinho needs to improve his end product and decision making to take the next step as a player. On first inspection, Pedro Neto could play a role in an Enzo Maresca side. He can play on the left and right wing and his ability to beat a man with his dribbling and pace would be an asset to this Manchester City side. Also, Pedro Neto has worked with Enzo Maresca before at Chelsea. So Maresca would know what he is getting with Pedro Neto if Manchester City did move to sign the Portuguese international. However, there are two major red flags surrounding Pedro Neto. The first one is Chelsea’s asking price. Neto has a long-term contract and is an important player for Chelsea. It is highly unlikely that they’ll sell Neto cheaply. The second red flag is Pedro Neto’s injury record . Neto does battle injuries regularly and that is a concern. He did make 52 appearances last season so perhaps that isn’t the concern that it appears to be. But it is a cause for concern for Manchester City. Final thoughts. Pedro Neto has been named as a potential transfer target for Manchester City in their bid to sign another winger. Neto is a nice player and he would be an upgrade on Savinho in terms of output as the statistics from last show if he is viewed solely as a replacement for the Brazilian international. However, Chelsea’s asking price for Neto could prevent the move from being feasible, so it remains to be seen if Fabrizio Romano’s report has any legs.
