Cambridge sign Barnet striker Stead

Callum Stead scored 50 goals in 124 appearances for Barnet [Getty Images] Cambridge United have made Barnet striker Callum Stead their first signing of the summer. The 26-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the U's after scoring 15 goals last season, with 13 of those in League Two, including five in Barnet's 6-2 win over Gillingham in the penultimate game of the campaign. Stead scored 18 times in 2024-25 as the Bees won the National League and clinched promotion to League Two. The U's finished third last term to seal automatic promotion back to League One at the first attempt and Stead said the chance to play in their third tier was a significant pull. "The chance to test myself in League One was a big factor for me and, after speaking with the club, it felt like the right move," he told the club's website.
